Apocalypse Now (1979)

Date Watched: March 24-25, 2012
Rating: 3.5/5

The fact that this movie took me 2 days to watch says a lot. Martin Sheen is on a confidential mission to kill a now-insane Marlon Brando. What is interesting about this movie is the toll it took on the actors - MS even suffered a minor alcohol during the production. Good movie - but just not for me.

Children of Men (2006)

Date Watched: March 23rd, 2012
Rating: 1/5

Not going to lie - I could barely pay attention to this movie. It was a little bit too depressing for me. Plus, I am not a big fan of Science Fiction movies. I do wish that Clive Owen would do more movies though. I loved him in Closer and Derailed.

Clueless (1995)

Date Watched: March 23rd, 2012
Rating: 5/5

This movie is the best chick flick/high school movie EVER! I am impressed that it made the list! Alicia Silverstone was PRICELESS! I remember when I watched this movie growing up and how I wanted her closet. I also remember being really sad when she gave most of it away. I also love it when I now watch movies that I watched when I was younger because I now get the jokes!

Babe (1995)

Date Watched: March 23rd, 2012
Rating: 2/5

I remember liking this movie as a kid. But watching it now, I was just annoyed. The damn sheep and their "Baas" drove me crazy! Especially when they were talking to Fly! It distracted me from the feel-good story line of the pig. This will defiantly not be watched for a really long time. And to think - I bought the Blu-Ray edition of this!

American Graffiti (1973)

Date Watched: March 23rd, 2012
Rating: 3/5

Not going to lie - this was not one of my favourites. The story line just dragged out. I do realize why it is on this list though (the classic coming of age tale), but still! I have a feeling that George Lucas' films and I are not going to get along in the future. The only thing that I can relate to is cruising around a small town with friends - used to do this all of the time in Mack.

Amelie (2001)

Date Watched: March 22nd, 2012
Rating: 4/5

Feel good movie? Check! English? NO! I was a little confused when I first started watching this move because I had no idea that it was all in French. However, after 10 minutes, I forgot all about what language this film was in. The cinematography in this movie does the translating for you.  I love watching movies like this where the colours just pop out. I should have bought this on Blu-Ray!

Airplane! (1980)

Date Watched: March 22nd, 2012
Rating: 5/5

All of those parody movies (Scary Movie 1-6?, Date Movie, etc.) need to take a lesson from Airplane!. This movie does parody the way it should be! The one-liners are timeless! I probably could write this whole review just using the one-liners. I could watch this movie and over again and NEVER get tired of it!

The Apartment (1960)

Date Watched: March 17th, 2012
Rating: 5/5

Jack Lemmon has just become one of my favourite actors. I was a little disappointed when I realized that this was another black and white film, but after the first five minutes, I failed to notice. I was so involved in the storyline that colour did not cross my mind. I can't wait to see more of his movies!

Some Like It Hot (1959)

Date Watched: March 15th, 2012
Rating: 1,000,000/5

THIS MOVIE IS NOW MY ALL-TIME FAV!
Jack Lemmon and Tony Curtis were PRICELESS in this movie. And MM was GORGEOUS! Definitely one of her best roles. I never expected to like this movie as much as I did - I feel like I am now obsessed with it. I can't wait to share it with friends and family!

The Defiant Ones (1958)

Date Watched: March 12th, 2012
Rating: 4.5/5

It's the acting that brings life to the still-relevant themes which make this movie what it is. Tony Curtis (as hot as he can be) is physically chained to the extraordinary Sidney Poitier but by the end of the movies, they are able to overcome their differences and become emotionally chained to each other. Cara Williams was also exceptional in her role as the desperate woman looking for love. I definitely approve of this movie being on the "Must See" list.

Out of Africa (1985)

Date Watched: March 9th, 2012
Rating: 5/5

This movie is now one of my favourite movies. Meryl Streep's performance is so good it's scary. And Robert Redford is just gorg-e-ous all rugged. My favourite line from the movie is "I won't love you more than a piece of paper." I LOVE the scene where they are in the water - the blue in the sky is amazing - it really makes me want to go to Africa. Although I can do without the syphilis. AND THE HAIR WASHING SCENE - oh my.  I can't wait to watch this movie again in the future.

A Trip to the Moon (1902)

Date Watched: March 8th, 2012
Rating: 3/5

Apparently this movie was made famous again by Hugo. In short, this movie is about six brave men going to the moon. Unlike Apollo 13, they actually made it to the moon! I love this movie just for the fact that it amazes me that such a thing existed in 1902. I would have never associated that year with film production.

Paths of Glory (1957)

Date Watched: March 7th, 2012
Rating: 4/5

This film never seems to bore me. The first time I watched it was with my Dad a couple of years ago. I gave him the option of choosing a movie to watch in my United Artists Collection and this is the one he picked. Set during WWI, Colonel Dax (Kirk Douglas) refuses to continue with the suicidal mission to seize The Ant Hill. Three men are brought to trial for being "cowards" and are subsequently executed. Kirk Douglas's acting is spot on - even though at times I mistake him for his son Michael Douglas. The rest of the men also stood out - particularly Timothy Carey as Maurice Ferol. I recommend that everyone should see this movie more than one before they die.
